(8 hours theory plus 4 hours practical)
During the 8-hour classroom portion of MTI’s Certified Single-Unit Air Brake course we will build a working air brake system from the ground up.
Students attending this course will become familiar with the advantages and safety measures that an air brake system offers for heavy vehicles, and how they function. MTI’s classroom features a functional air brake board that enables students to have a hands-on experience before entering the yard, thoroughly demonstrating how each component functions. This interactive classroom portion provides students with the information they need to successfully prepare for ICBC’s Air Brake knowledge test.
The 4-hour pre-trip practical portion provides hands-on instruction in Air Brake pre-trip techniques, as well as brake adjustment procedures – leading up to your Air Brake Pre-Trip test. Upon successful completion, you will be given copies of your ICBC Test Results and Driver Certification forms.
After completion of MTI’s classroom theory course and the practical portion, you can head to ICBC’s Driver Licensing Office to write the Air Brake knowledge test and have the Air Brake endorsement (15) added to your licence.
MTI’s Single-Unit Air Brake courses are generally scheduled monthly with the theory/classroom instruction taking place on a Saturday from 8am until 5pm, and the 4-hour practical training scheduled on the Sunday (either a morning session or an afternoon session) – based on the availability of the student, an instructor and a vehicle (truck or bus).
